Cairo – Mubasher: Cyprus is close to signing an agreement to export natural gas to Egypt, according to Bloomberg.
Cyprus could supply Egypt with gas discovered by Noble Energy Inc from the Aphrodite field, which contains an estimated 4.5 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves.
This potential deal comes after Noble Energy and Delek Group signed a 10-year deal worth a combined $15 billion to sell natural gas from Israel’s Tamar and Leviathan to Egypt’s Dolphinus Holdings.
“Cyprus is close to selling natural gas to Egypt’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, and we could reach an agreement in the coming weeks,” Energy Minister Georgios Lakkotrypis said.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasised that the government is not a part of the signed agreement by the private company Dolphinus Holdings to import Israeli gas.
